Movie Review: From China With Love
The film “From China With Love” directed by Otto Alexander Jahrreiss was released in Germany back in 1998, under the title “Liebe im Schatten Drachen.” The movie was just recently released for a second time here in the United States. Releasing the film for the first time back in 1998 was one release too many. Putting the movie out for a second time is sort of like telling a bad joke two times in a row. If it wasn’t funny the first time around, chances are, it won’t be funny the second time it’s told.
The story takes place when a German photographer by the name of Paul Konen (Jurgen Prochnow) goes out on an assignment in China. He originally goes out to take photographs, until falling in love with his Chinese tour guide Wang Liyun (Sarah Lam). Sounds like your typical international love affair, until the Chinese mafia gets involved. The mafia ends up kidnapping Wang Liyun. Our hero Mr. Paul Konen has to battle to save her, and the mafia places him in several dangerous cat-and-mouse-type situations.
